Eastcape Midlands Fet College, known as EMC, came into being on 31 March 2002 with the merger of Uitenhage Technical College, KwaNobuhle Technical College, Grahamstown Technical College and the satellite campus of Bethelsdorp Technical College in Graaff-Reinet and was officially launched in October 2003.
EMC is a Public Further Education and Training (FET) institution. FET Colleges offer nationally accredited courses according to the new SAQA requirements that fit levels 2 รข€“ 4 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
The college serves a highly industrialised urban area, part of the Nelson Mandela Metropole, as well as the rural western part of the province. As such, it faces enormous challenges in being a provider for the needs of a highly advanced industrial component on the one hand and, a widespread rural area with high unemployment and poverty rate at the other.
Eastcape Midlands Fet College
EMC currently have five campuses: three campuses namely High Street, Park Avenue & Charles Goodyear campuses are situated in Uitenhage and two distant campuses of which one is in Graaff-Reinet and other in Grahamstown. The administrative head office is situated in Uitenhage.
High Street campus offers Business Studies programmes while Park Avenue campus focuses on Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Computer Science. Charles Goodyear campus focus on mechanical engineering and skills training. Both Grahamstown and Graaff-Reinet campuses specialise Business Studies programmes.
EMC believe in hands-on training and equipping students with useful knowledge and skills that would ensure employment in the labour market. Various simulation rooms and practical skills training venues exist within the institution to ensure students get the necessary practical experience.
New Campus!
We will soon be launching the sixth campus in Uitenhage, namely the Brickfields Road Campus which will house the School of Occupational Training
EMC is also an accredited provider for Learnership and Skills courses as well as various corporate training programmes.
